University to Ann Coulter: Please watch your mouth

Francois Houle, vice-president academic and provost, advises Ms. Coulter, who holds a law degree, to review Canada's hate speech and defamation laws before giving her talk at the university.

In an email sent to Ms. Coulter on Friday, a copy of which has been obtained by the National Post, Mr. Houle wrote: "Our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or "free speech") in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here."

He continued, "Promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges."

After also mentioning defamation law, the provost wrote, "I therefore ask you, while you are a guest on our campus, to weigh your words with respect and civility in mind."

Notice they said "please"

But what happens to your equation construct if you change KKK to NAMBLA". The letter "L" stands for love, not hate, so how does that fit into your "equation"?

but not a double standard.

No matter what your opinion of the KKK, you are still practicing hate speech against them. Just because YOU don't like them doesn't make it all right. If it were another group you would probably consider such speech a crime. That's what's wrong.

Ever hear of "equal justice under the law?"

James, James, James, you should say

You notice how quickly the subject moved from hate speech to freedom of speech?

Why? you may ask.

Because IN the Very first post, the Original Post one of the lines in the first paragraph is

advises Ms. Coulter, who holds a law degree, to review Canada's hate speech

SO "Hate Speech " is open for discussion,

No, without their sheets on, nobody can identify them.
Mar 25, 2010 1:11AM PDT

Any race is identifiable. Any religious group is identifiable by its place of worship. Some gay people are believed to be identifiable by their behaviour, or where they hang out.

I got chased by 4 teenagers after I left a friend's apartment in the gay village in Toronto. Neither he, who was not present nor I who was wearing a new suede jacket my wife gave me for Christmas, are gay. I made it to the Subway and they sheered off because I hung around the ticket seller rather than going immediately down to track level.

...thick skull? She didn't call them up and ask to speak there. She was INVITED to speak there. BEFORE she gave any speech there the haters came out to do their usual thing of trying to quelch any speech that MIGHT occur they MIGHT disagree with, because they prefer to gnash their teeth and stop their ears lest they hear any truth.

The Canadians there at the university have shown a rudeness that goes beyond anything they feel a right to accuse her of. Atrocious on their part actually. Other Canadians should be ashamed of them.

Sounds like the invitation may have been given with an ulterior motive already in motion on part of University personnel.
