Sharp LC line versions confusing--help please

Jun 30, 2005 3:36AM PDT

OK, I'm in the market for a 37" TV. I've decided to go with a LCD. This is all mostly due to limitations in my space for a TV. The Sharp models all offer one version or another with the speaker across the bottom, which is perfect.

My problem is that for all my looking, including the Sharp website itself, I cannot make heads or tails about the various models that are out there. Here on CNET alone, there are these model designations:

HV
G
GB
GD
D
and I think HB

Its crazy. I am guessing that some of that is just related to model year. My main point that I am trying to figure out is that it has the HDTV tuner inside or ready to go.

Some other factors--I'm not really a tech head. We don't watch a lot of TV. DO NOT have cable and don't plan to get it. Do watch a lot of TVs (and yes know we need to get a progressive scan DVD player). Want to hopefully get broadcast HD when we do watch (like watching 24 and Jack Bower or sports). Don't care about PiP.

Anyone know the differences of these models? Any suggestions are welcome as well as we are close to having enough money, but feel overwhelmed with info.

Sharp LCD - Best Model

The best LCD TVs from Sharp are labeled Aquos. If you go to Sharp's website...

... you will find all the models listed. I know it is confusing, but you will have to check out the specs on each individual model within the 37 inch category. Some have speakers on the sides, some on the bottom. On some you hook up your cables to a separate box and on others directly to the back of the TV (less convenient). I know it is very confusing.

Thank you for your reply, but most of their sets are Aquos line sets. Or they are not. See, as you said, its very confusing. I think I realize that part of this is the year of release, but I just wish there was a simple list somewhere. And worse, the prices don't really match up. It would seem that one could find a simple way to determine the differences, such as one set not having PiP or how many inputs, but it all makes no sense.

Any body else have any ideas?
