Sharp LC-32G4U vs. LC-32GD4U

Dec 13, 2004 10:35AM PST

I am looking to purchase one of these & realize the G4U has the AVS box where the GD4U doesn't. I plan to hang on the wall. The fella at my local Tweeter store says I don't need the AVS box because I am only plugging in video only. I notice when I check prices the GD4U is higher priced by $300 or so (internet). Why is that? I would think it would be less money since it doesn't have the box. Do I need that box or can I get away without it? I have a DVD and VCR that I will be hooking in to the t.v. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Difference...
Dec 15, 2004 12:45PM PST

Hi Tanda...

The difference is that the GD model has the HDTV tuner built-in. That's it.

While both models are capable of displaying high-definition content, the G model will require a separate HD Tuner to watch HDTV.

This does NOT affect DVD viewing however.

Hope that helps.

difference between these models

The GD4U is higher priced because Sharp included the integrated ATSC tuner (for tuning over the air HD channels) & cable card slot (receiving HD channels form the cable company without the need for a separate set top box). Here's a link for the LC-32GD4U & 32G4U:

We are an online retailer for Sharp's LCD TV line and we've encountered quite a bit of confusion over the model numbers & pricing. The AVC box houses all of the inputs for LC-32G4U LCD TV but either model would work fine for your DVD & VCR. It really comes down to whether or not you care about having the built in HD tuner & cable card slot and want to pay for it.
