SHARP Aquos Quattron LC-46LE820UN Settings

Dec 13, 2010 9:28PM PST

I just bought the Sharp Aquos Quattron LC-46LE820UN and am hoping someone has some calibration/picture settings that they can share. I'm really looking forward to getting everything I can out of this TV. Anything can help! Thanks so much.

short answer.

I plan on actually calibrating mine I just purchased after the initial break in period, as soon as I do will post my settings for you. I noticed CNET hasn't got to this display "yet" so they will probably beat me to it, but will try and get this done a.s.a.p. Using my Avia disc and color filters. But for now if you plan on watching film, select the user mode picture setting or (movie) and set the color temp to the lowest possible, I noticed even in store and after initial set up, the lowest setting will give you the closest to 6500k I have ever witnessed in a LCD anyway. As far as if you game, use the more fake settings...vivid, dynamic ect. doesn't matter much for that other then keep your contrast at a decent level if you plan on playing in a dimly lit or dark room at night ect. cut back on the eyestrain.
Hope this helps a bit until I post my cal settings. Just make sure to cut back that back light to a decent level and the contrast, many people tweak that way too high, they think it looks better but honestly they are pushing their panels hard and pushing them hard means, well a shorter life span. settings

Yeah I actually finished setting my display up for film and gaming, as far as sports, you can tweak dynamic for that if you want, make sure motion is on 120hz and film mode is off, should be by default but sometimes your settings get screwie for lack of a better phrase.

I will post my settings for games and film before the week ends, as I am not near my hdtv atm, but I promise will make a note of it on my laptop and post them a.s.a.p.
Basically you want to use the movie setting obviously for film, but before tweaking it, make sure to do a reset to defaults for all the settings in the movie category, I got it pretty much to 6500k or at least really close. Looks good to me, I use that setting mostly at night, as I didn't bother to adjust for daylight, but everything should be the same for that input setting with the exception of movie and backlight(you may have to turn it up instead of having it pretty much all the way down for daytime film viewing, or have OPC do it for you.)

Avoid setting your color temp to anything higher then Mid, it may look brighter but trust me it is garrish and not normal, and you end up pushing your panel too much and for too long, as dynamic is set up really bright, it will basically push your panel and cause it to age faster. Lower is better honestly and it isn't just popular opinion it is actually proven, but if bright is your thing don't be surprised your panel begins to go south sooner then later. Once your eyes adjust to the as close too if not spot on 6500kelvin nothing will look as good.

As far as the gaming setting I used the gaming preset, I then reset to default to save the changes I made, and tweaked the color a bit, brightness was spot on, but you may need to lower or raise slightly, as even though we have the same make and model HDTV some settings are a bit different due to manufactoring and what not. But usually by a fraction of 1-3 steps down or up. Will toss all my settings your way though and good luck, you may need a bit of tweaking as I said beforehand with a few steps down or up - or + other then that they should still look really awesome for both film and gaming. Sports well go all out, but grass isn't really that green. Grin Let me know via either email or this post if you have become familiar with all of your menu settings as far as picture because as you probably know there are quite a few inside the advanced menu, so you will be changing hues, and color segment ratios just so you know. This having the yellow color added made it a bit of a weird experience for me but once it was done WOW was awesome before now I refuse to play on anything else.

If worse comes to worse, you can connect your HDTV to your home network and use Sharp Aquos Live and have them calibrate it for you haven't done that as I don't really know much about them and their skills but it is worth a shot if you want. I thought about doing it to save time but....your display has to look good to you and we all perceive things like color blackness level and contrast differently. Try my settings first if you want if their great awesome glad I could help, if not try out the Aquos Live Advantage calibration. It's free for you and if you sing up btw you get an extra 3 months added to your 1 year warranty. Happy O.k. Will be in touch.

thanks Robot! i appreciate you taking time to respond

set the movie calibration you recommended while watching a football game ... actually looks good for that too lol

will watch a movie tonight for sure to see what the settings look like there

i'm messing around with the Dynamic setting to use for sports to fit my taste, but i honestly really dont know what the advanced color settings are supposed to do; some of the blues look cartoonish to me in that mode, but i like the vividness

thanks again for your help, any other settings you can give me to try will be appreciated - no gaming stuff hooked up to it, so its all about the picture as opposed to lag, etc

Please Help...headphones and TV speakers at the same time?
Jan 11, 2011 5:13AM PST

Hi. I have a question for Sharp Quattrons. Can you use at the same time TV speakers and headphones? I cannot. When I plug in the headphones' cord on TV, the TV speakers don't work. Is this a spec of Sharp TVs? I couldn't find any settings that will let me use at the same time the speakers of TV and the headphones. This was a surprise for me, because at previews TV, I could do this.

Sorry that I make this question here, but you have new Sharp Quattron so you may know or try it and tell me if this is possible.

Thank you.
Quattrons (with some specific settings) are the best.

sorry

No by default if you plug any headphones into the rear headphone jack on your SHarp display it will by default shut the internal speakers off...makes sense really everything usually does anyway. So try hooking up some external computer speakers if you don't have a decent audio rack system for sound. They work fine too.
