of doing this is to copy the iTunes database from its current location, HD/User/Music, to the Shared Folder in the HD/Users. Hold down the Option key when you drag it to there and a copy will automatically be made.
Now, in the Shared folder, single click(select) the itunes library and press Command + i (Get Info)
Under the Ownership and Permissions/Details, change the last entry, Others, to Read & Write. You may need to supply a password to accomplish this.
Once that has been done, close all the windows and holding down the Option key, launch iTunes. iTunes will now tell you that it needs a library to work with, Quit, Create, Choose Library. Using the Choose option, navigate to the HD/Users/Shared Folder and select the iTunes library that you just dragged there.
Have your wife log on as herself and launch iTunes with the Option key held down. Do the same as the previous paragraph and she will have access to that iTunes library.
The same can be done with iPhoto.
iTunes and iPhoto will choose the last library used when they next open. Using this method, you can have an individual library for each user, HD/Users/Username/Music/iTunes Library, and a shared one, HD/Users/Shared Folder/iTunes Library.
Is that what you were looking for?

Just switched to iMac with Leopard, formerly and XP user, I noticed that my wife can only access the iPhoto and iTunes shared libraries when we are both logged in . Is there any way to share these folders with only one of us logged in otherwise its kind of useless. (other than joining the .mac nation)
