Sharing files in virtual box !!

How do I share files between host OS ( Mac OS X ) and guest OS ( ubuntu 11.4 ) ??

I created a folder in my home directory ( os x ) and set it for sharing under shared folder in virtual box ... There is mounting command that has to be run on the terminal but even that does not work ( mount -t vboxsf )
