Sharing a wireless network from a MBP to a G4 via ethernet.

Nov 1, 2007 12:27PM PDT

I know that some of you guys said that sharing wireless networks via a laptop wired to a G4 will not work too well, but I want to try anyway.

For starters, I kind of need someone to get me started, as I have tried a few things with my G4 and MBP and so far, I can't get my G4 to think that the MBP is providing the internet connection. If anyone knows how to do this in detail, I'd like to hear it. Network Diagnostics says it get ethernet and some other junk, but no connection and ISP or something... LOL. I wish it was a bit easier, but apparently, I may have to buy some gear for my G4 after all.

Any thoughts on this network sharing?
Thanks,

Did some surfing around in my System Preferences,
Nov 1, 2007 12:32PM PDT

and thanks to Leopard's new organization of all my stuff, I found some Internet sharing stuff and other useful things. Didn't see it there in Tiger, but I know it was there.
I'll try it now that I actually have found what appears to be the sharing option I've been trying to use.
I feel kind of dumb to have figured this out after posting the first post, but it happens.
Hope it works. Advice is still appreciated.

It's working, though my laptop is much faster of course.

But the G4 browses nicely for itself. Impressive. Though I don't think I want to rely heavily on this sharing connection. I'll probably end up getting that AirPort receiver thing that plugs in the wall and has the ethernet port...

Oh well... it works for now. I don't feel to secure about running it this way, even though the output is through the cable. Very interesting though.

Airport thingy is really neato.

Airport wall plug router thingies are really nice. Way better than sharing from a MBP.
BTW..you can stream audio to an AMP from the Airport which is really neato.

Cheers.
