sharing a printer

by ruckus / April 23, 2004 6:15 AM PDT

I network my HPPavillion Desktop and my IBM 600E Thinkpad. I have activated "sharing" on both computers to share the printer connected to my Desktop. Each time I go to use the printer from the laptop, it goes through all the functions (icon comes up then disappears) except to print. It recognizes the HP Deskjet as the default printer but will not print

Ruckus,

Did you install the printer software on BOTH computers? Sometimes the standard Windows drivers which are installed when "adding" a printer just don't get it done.

Hope this helps.

You did not mention if they have common OS's and if the printer is connected via USB and what model. Some older HP printers are very difficult to share across a network if USB and require special drivers.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
