Resolved Question

Shared folders in My Network Places disappearing

Sep 12, 2013 4:24AM PDT

Hello, The problem I have is that my folder that are connected to our main server computer keep disappearing randomly. What I mean by that is when I go into My Network Places I usually have around 15 folders, which consists of everyone else's folders they add to the server from their pc's. There is a specific folder everyone uses and about everyday i have to add it back into the my network places for them. I'm doing this by "Add a network place" Now I've also seen these folders disappear right infront of me when I open my network places. They will all be there and boom only about 5 stay, and its the same 5. I've mapped the network drive from the my computer screen but the boss lady wants these folders to STAY in my network places and not go to my computer to find the mapped drive. Running Windows XP and the server is windows server 2003.

This is an old bug that I only can nod and write that we saw years ago (10+ and counting.)

I've seen folk call MSFT and spent a lot of time and money on this one. So my question to you is simple. Since I've seen this before and MSFT has walked away leaving it as-is, where-is without leaving a copy of the code for others to look and see if they can fix it, what are your thoughts on this?

Also, have you been running into folk that thought this OS was without such troubles?

Thanks again bob, it's not a huge deal, it's more of an annoyance adding the network place every other day. Again, thanks for the quick answer

The old workaround.

1. Forget Network Places.
If you can't do that, no one can help you.

2. Create a new folder where you want it. Desktop or other place.
Now drop shortcuts to those network shares in there.
