Question

Shall the register get erased after the application removed?

Sep 27, 2012 10:28AM PDT

I need to install a software. It seems to use the same register as MCafee Virus Scanner. ("unable to write inside TEMP variable path"). After uninstalling the Virus Scan, the register <span id="INSERTION_MARKER">{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8} (with data c:\program files\mcafee\virusscan\scriptcl.dll) is still there. The register should be erased during the uninstallation process, shouldn't it? Is it safe to delete the register manually?

Answer
No.

And I'm going with no. Most folk should stay out of the registry.

Did you try McAfee's cleanup and removal tool?

Thanks for your information.

I removed the McAfee Virus Scan with the Windows program management program, but not McAfee's uninstaller.

I end up it with an editing on the register value after granting myself a right to do so.
