Keith, I will try to translate the warning from a dutch version of Norton.

WARNING: Dangerous Script
Object: Windows Script Host Shell Object
Computer has been stopped
Something has to be done with this script
File: ShadowBar.exe
What would you like to do
Stop Script ( Recommended)
OK

If I click on OK warning window disappears and computer is froozen.

Assuming that it really is an HP program...

it isn't a virus (which explains why other virus scanners aren't detecting it). You are being warned about a potentially dangerous script. According to the startups link I posted, you don't need to have the program running. Try using msconfig to disable the program (don't delete anything, just disable it). If there are no adverse affects from disabling it, leave it off. If it doesn't execute, then Norton shouldn't detect it.

You might also zip up the program and send it to Symantec as a possible false positive.

Those go to mostly HijackThis logs...
Dec 4, 2003 10:47AM PST

that show that it is running on the PC. Without the warning message, it's hard to determine what the problem with that executable is.

Yeah - but if you look at the hijack logs

you can also see:

O4 - Global Startup: hp center UI.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Shadow\ShadowBar.exe

I assume it is a "false alarm" from Symantec !

Keith & Marianna, McAfee's Doing The Same Thing Now
Dec 5, 2003 1:16AM PST

NAV & McAfee both, are now finding "Potentially harmful scripting" actions that may be perfectly normal processes on computers. McAfee's currently showing a problem with the HP and Compaq "Help and Support" link. A script launches the support protocol and an "script" warning is reported. Placing the problem script in McAfee's "allowed scripts" section lets things run smoothly. I'm guessing that NAV has something similar. Most of these problems tend to be with WindowsXP because of the fancy "doo dads" that they offer. The "shadowbar" program appears to be a legitimate program that just happens to run a script. NAV is just notifying the user of that.

Hope this helps.
