1. Cable modems don't share the connection. Your run of the mill cable modem has one internet connection that you must install some router after that. Most routers that you see are for home use.
2. OK, you have the wiring so you get a tech to rewire it to Ethernet standards and install your commercial grade router with a managed hub so you can control access.
Figure under a few thousand for the tech and gear.
Hello all,
My apartment is pre-wired with Cat5e with the following setup in the controller box, see image here.
As you can see this is a setup for voice. I would like to remove the voice module and have a setup exclusively for data. Specifically I would like to connect my cable modem directly to all the Cat5e ports in the controller box so that I can have ethernet/internet connection throughout the apartment at all the ports in the various rooms. I would leave the setup as is if I could, but the telephone module only works for voice.
How would I go about the setup? Do I need another module? Or can I remove the current module, strip the wires, attach RJ-45 connectors to all the cables, and hook up to a switch/router?
Looking forward to getting people's thoughts. Thanks!
Al
