Setup Choices, Which is best?

Nov 25, 2004 5:54AM PST

I have necessary stuff to run a computer at home. I have an LSI Logic Ultra320 controller along with 4 x 36.6 GB Ultra 320 HDDS.

I've narrowed my setup options to three (all Intel). This will be used for SQL, Oracle, Linux, and as server on home network. All of these fit within my range. Which setup should I get?

Skip Intel. Get an Athlon 64. Paying a high price for a 32 bit processor now doesn't make sense. In the second half of '05 many great 64 bit applications will be released. Many who bought a 32 bit processor in '04 or early '05 will regret that decision in the second half of '05.

JK654, facts. The upcoming Pentium 4 600 series are enabled with EM64T. There will be a 64-Bit version of the Pentium M also. Intel already said that all current LGA775 boards support the 600 series processors and 64-Bit. So, I will not skip on Intel.

Anyone else?
