The reason is pretty simple. There's no standard that would let us craft such an app and be sure it would work across the millions of cards, PCs and OSes today.
So the setup you have should be able to work but I'm encountering folk that want a simpler method than what the OS and control panels offer. Our office writes apps and the problem is that a custom app might be possible for a big show where there's a few 100K bucks laying around, it's a custom job so it's tailored to that rig.
Parting idea. How about a video switch box to switch it around?

Hi,
Here is what I want to do.
I run My PC using the DVI cable connected to a Monitor.
I would like to connect MY TV to the HDMI socket of my 5770 GPU and run the TV as a second display so that I can select it from the PC when I want it to be used.
the Ideal situation would be that it was disabled when not in use but still connected.
Is there some third party software that could facilitate this ?
Trying to do it using the AMD Catalyst Control Center has proven problematic.
iIts almost as if the HDMI is always the primary display even when its selected as the secondary. It will let me set up so that the DVI connected monitor behaves as I described above yet will not let me do it when I set it the other way around.
Any help appreciated.
