Setting up D-link DI-624 / DWL-G520 Adapter for VPN Access

Nov 13, 2004 11:10PM PST

I work from my home and have one cable internet line that I use for work. I access my company network by VPN. I need some "very simple step-by-step instructions on how to set this up". My knowledge of network information is limited so please, keep this in mind. My company is not very keen on me using a router but having a second cable line installed doesn't make any sens to me.

Sadly, step by steps are only good for each company and what I use doesn't work for your company.

Maybe all you need to do is to FORWARD the VPN ports to your target machine. Again, I can't know this since at our office we don't use the standard VPN ports and a good IT staff won't go with the stock settings.

Sorry, but step by step isn't doable.

Please help me understand what specicic info I need to obtain. It sounds like the procedure might be the same but there is specific port info that I need? If so, is this information likely available to me over my company connection? I connect just fine when connecting directly to the cable connection.

You didn't write that before and so with this new information it nails it that you need to configure your router to forward the VPN port numbers to your machine.

I can't know your company's selection for such.

Thanks Bob, I appreciate your time & advice. Now all I have to do is find step by step info to walk me thru that process. One thing I have noticed about Dlink is that they seem to assume a level of network knowledge/technical skill that is higher than what I posess. I'm really looking for something that starts out. "Go to this and do this. Next go to this and do this, etc.etc. That may be expecting too much but until I can find that level of help, I may as well use this router as an anchor.
