Question

Setting up a "randomized" email system

Apr 12, 2013 7:38AM PDT

Sorry, I had no idea what to title this. I'm just wondering if it is possible.

I'm wondering if it is possible to set up something that will automatically forward emails to 1 of 7 different recipients. If that didn't make sense, I'll just explain what I want to happen. First email with specific criteria comes in and it automatically forwards to recipient 1. Second email with specific criteria comes and it automatically forwards to recipient 2 and so on. The specific criteria would just be that it contains certain words.

That's all for now.

Thanks!

There's a lot to use there.

Answer
I believe Windows Live Mail rules will do this

Take a look at the message rules in Windows Live Mail. It looks to me like you can do exactly what you want.

Good luck.

I'm not seeing how to do it

Maybe I didn't explain what I want to do well enough. I want the forwarding to alternate between individuals on a list.

Example: Rule that sends the first email containing "elephant" first to Joe, then the next one containing "elephant" to Amy, then the next one containing "elephant" to Tamy, then the next one containing "elephant" to Joe, then the next one containing "elephant" to Amy, etc. etc.

Forgot something

I also need to be able to hand it off to the next group of people in my position (next year), so it needs to be completely online. Is that possible?

Absolutely.

Almost any system can be put on a cloud server/service. Most folk don't because it's cheaper to get a small machine such as a spare old desktop or net book and let it run for cheap.

Is there an option that is free?

It's for a group that doesn't generate profit. Hearing the word cheaper gets me worried.

I gave the free option.

Sorry but it appears you might be in over your budget on this one. That is, if any old PC running a script costs too much then it's game over.
