Question

Setting Up a Netgear Router

Mar 9, 2019 10:23AM PST

Hi. I just purchased a Netgear Dual Band WiFi Rourter, Model #R6 120.

I am incompetent when it comes to computers, so I need help with a basic setup.

I cabled my router via the instructions from the Netgear manual.

1)I unplugged the modem and then I plugged it back in and turned the modem on.

2)I connected the blue Ethernet cable by placing one end into my modem's Ethernet's port and the other end into the router's Internet port.

3)I then connected the power adapter by placing one end into the router and plugging the other end of the power adapter into my Belkin surge protector.

4)With the router turned on, I then connected one end of the Ethernet cable that I had taken out of the modem (I have wired Internet) and connected it to the the #1 Ethernet port on the router. The other end of the Ethernet cable is, of course, connected to my PC. However, I have no Internet access. The 4 LED lights on the front of the router are green. When I go to my Network and Internet Settings on my Windows 10 PC, it says that there is no Internet connection, so I cannot enter the router password after clicking on the generic WiFi Network Name.

What step do I need to take to get Internet access so that I can continue setting up this router?

Thank you.

The manual doesn't tell you but

Do the factory reset so we are sure your router is stock.

Also, they recommend using their app for setup. For my setup I get wired the first time.
