Setting up a Mail Account

May 29, 2007 7:28AM PDT

Sorry to ask so basic a question.
I have just acquired a MacBook Pro and want to set up a Mail Account. I have a Windows XP Home PC on which I am on Tiscali.fr ADSL with a Wireless capacity. I am in dire need of some very simple-terms instruction as to how I set up a Mail Account. ( I have tried, but unsuccessfully.) When I say simple, I mean just that, I'm afraid. I need to know not only what Information I need, but where to find it !
My blundering so far has resulted in the Message Form appearing when I go to "Mail", but messages are unable to be sent because "the server pop.aliceadsl.fr cannot be contacted".
If I haven't given enough detail, I'll gladly add what I can if asked.

Setting up a Mail Account

Thanks, once again, Bob.
I'm afraid the site you mention was not of any help. However, by even more "trial and error" jiggery-pokery, I've managed to set it up.

That you could steal some clues from that site. Too often I see typographical errors such as pop2.email.com versus pop3.email.com or in your case is a new one with no number such as pop.email.com.

For me, I'm an old hand at setting these up so all I ever need is the server names (the IP in a real pinch if my ISP does not resolve the names) and the PORTS they use.

Google's GMAIL is a little rough like that.

The link you provided

gave all the necessary details for setting up the MAIL account. It just did not refer to MAIL by name. The setup procedure for Outlook Express for Mac contained all the info.
