Setting the Filetypes straight! Insight needed

by laserluv / January 21, 2006 10:41 AM PST

With so many filetype extensions on the market today, I am very confused about the need or point of ripping DVDs to the various filetypes: avi, mpeg2, mpeg4, wmv, mpeg, avi, divx, etc.

I am trapped in what type of dvd ripping software to use and why I would need it. Ideally I would like to understand the advantages of all the filetypes to make an informed decision.

Can someone offer guidance on all of the filetypes, and the advantages to buying software that rips DVDs to those formats?

Thank you,
C. Montoya
