Setting recording default in Vista for Ion TTUSB Turntable

When I try to change the recording default in Windows Vista to 2 channel, 16 bit, 44100 HZ for my Ion usb turntable I get as far as clicking on the recording tab in sound and the blue screen of death appears and shuts my computer down. Has anyone had this problem occur and if so did you find a solution?
