set up home net work

I need help setting up a home network , I have a labtop with XP Home SPK 2 and a desk top with XP PRO SPK 2 but I dont know how to set up the net work to share flies with each other can you help me with detail information thanks alot for your help.

The easiest way. . .

is with a router. Connect the router to your modem, cable or DSL, then connect the PCs to the router, you'll need a NIC in each PC. Follow the instructions that came with the router. If you are running a firewall you'll need to configure it to allow sharing, directions are with the router or the firewall. XP has a Networking wizard that will lead you by the hand.
