co-located, or office is across internet?

My wife does "work at home" right now, and to access her office computer she had to use our state's particular VPN network to access the office computer, and the office computer had to be set for WOL which is Wake On Lan, and the VPN server at the office needed a special access allowed for even that to happen. If your office has IT staff, then consult them about how you can do it. I upgraded her computer from W7 to W10 which was required, installed the "work at home" program required, but changes also had to be made at her work place by the IT there to allow it to complete the access.

If your office computer doesn't go through an server, but direct to internet, you could then use Team Viewer to access it.

That is so far above my head, it's crazy. Basically, I need to be able to access certain documents whether I'm at home or at the office. I've been carrying a flash drive with me but as I edit the documents, I get a big mess of documents on each computer. There has to be an easier way like if they're stored in the cloud but I don't know how to do that either.

I use dropbox for such work.

For me the basic 2GB is plenty for documents.

I have my own domain name and a hosted account I pay $10 a month with unlimited bandwidth and storage, so I can load files by FTP to the server and then send a link to whatever file is wanted/needed and they can download just that linked file from it. I've used a lot of image links into these forums using that method too. If I'm out of town, I can connect to the FTP to get files I need too, no matter the computer used, or cellphone.
