Service plans

Please help....I know nothing about computers and just bought an HP a804n at Best Buy because of the clerk's advice. I was originally going to buy the e-machine that was on sale for around $650 which included a skinny monitor and printer!!! Both I believe have the "Athlon 64" feature which was what I was looking for. However, the clerk told me to buy the HP with the service plan for $800 because it was a better computer? Does anyone agree/disagree? I could probably still switch it- I pick it up tomorrow. Are the service plans such a big deal for the money when you already have the warranty?

It depends on what the service plan covers.....

If additional warranty time is alloted to an LCD monitor, then the extra dough may be worth it. I have read HP is having problems with certain 17 inch models failing shortly after the one year warranty expires.

Hardware issues within a PC will usually surface after the first few months of usage, putting it within most standard warranty time frames.

Retailers love those extended warranties.
