service pack 1

Sep 4, 2010 11:38AM PDT

I've recently recovered my system (Home Premium 32 bit)using recovery disks. I need to apply SP1 (single computer) and SP2. Where can I find a copy of SP1 now that Microsoft no longer supports it?

There's no need

There's no need. SP2 should be cumulative. But, if you really want, it's still available for download on Microsoft's website. The lack of support just means that all future security patches for Vista will require SP2, and if you call MS for support, you will have to have SP2. It doesn't mean they remove all downloads for SP1. You can still probably find the Win95a update on Microsoft's website if you really want.

thanks for the tip but...

I just downloaded SP2 and it said SP1 needed to be installed first. The vista update page doesn't show any link to SP1 that I can find, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Strange.

I didn't know that Microsoft had ceased support for Vista pre-SP2 systems.

What happens if you just use Vista's own Windows Updates to check and download all necessary updates?

(Note. I deleted a previous reply of my own. I replied thinking this was Windows XP, and not Vista).

sp1 and sp2

I was able to find SP1, but only the large multi-PC version. It did the trick. MS update manager does not update the service packs (nor does it tell you that it hasn't). Two cheers for Microsoft.
