Question

Server not found: rtmpt://<ip number>:80/redirect

Jun 18, 2014 11:24AM PDT

My problem is that whenever my router is rebooted, because the power is down or for any other reason, I can't then watch any live stream, except those from www.new.livestream.com. Some streams are loading forever and won't begin, while others, using JW player, show this message: "Server not found: rtmpt://<ip number>:80/redirect".

The problem extends to include downloads. I'm using internet download manager, and at the current time version 6.20 build 5. Whenever my router is rebooted, I try to resume a downloading file or download a new file and I noticed that in the grey details panel under the Info tab most of the records appear Disconnect. or SEND GET. although they were showing Receiving data... before the router is rebooted.

I searched all over the internet for a solution for this exact problem but I found nothing related. I tried a solution about changing the static IPv4 address, but this had nothing to do with my problem.

The only way to make live streams work and to fix the download issue is to turn off my router and wait for while and then turn it on again. I understand that turning off the router for a long while or at least five minutes will change the IP address if it is a dynamic address. However, each time I do this I check if the IP address has been changed, through running the cmd and typing ipconfig /all, I find that the IPv4 address has not been changed; it is always the same with the word (Preferred) next to it regardless the streams are working or not. Notice that this solution does not necessarily work at the first time; some times I have to turn off and turn on the router more than once until the streams work. I also tried using the Ethernet cable instead of the wireless connection, but of course the same problem occurs.

The stream I'm testing on is: testing stream, or you can go to www.usagoals.com and select the link to Sky Sports 1.
At the current time I'm setting my IPv4 of my WIFI connection on "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
I have updated my Adobe Flash Player to the latest version (at this moment version 14 plugin).
I'm on Windows 8 64-bit.

There are some cases I did not try, such as doing a 'telnet <ServerName> 80'. I actually don't understand what this is and how to do it.

I'll appreciate your helpful replies and explanations.

I'm using internet download manager

These tend to create a lot of problems. I'd take it up with that company or author. I know it sounds horrible but the company I do support for won't support any IDM.

Streams are the main problem
Jun 18, 2014 12:17PM PDT

First of all, thank you for replying fast.

I don't completely understand what you mean by "I'd take it up with that company or author". If you mean, as I understand, that you will discuss the issue with IDM company/staff, then it doesn't worth to. You can just neglect the IDM part because my main problem is with the streams.

I don't clearly understand the error itself, and why it occurs. If you explained it to me, I'll be thankful. And most importantly, is this problem a hardware kind (i.e. Is my router itself has a problem), or it's just related to some settings that need changes.

It's worse than that.

The support branch will not enter into any support discussion when IDM is installed. They walk since it can create problems. I agree with that.

Since it's IDM in the play, you deal with their support to get it fixed. It's a shame it has to be this way but their product, they get to deal with client issues.

Thank you for being obvious

Thank you for explanation. Actually, that was my second assumption. But, I wonder what can I do? Shall I repost my forum without the IDM part or it will go under the definition of a duplicate-forum?.

Since IDM is optional
Jun 19, 2014 1:21AM PDT

Why keep it for now as it's a possible cause of the issues? That is, I've lost count of the number of times the support team would restore the machine to its factory OS and the problem would vanish or just uninstall IDM. Some clients would demand support for IDM but as they were not IDM the demand would fall flat and over the years the policy changed to what it is today. The company decided that IDM troubles were best left to IDM to care for.

Now what if the client insists it's not IDM at fault. Doesn't matter. If IDM is installed or was installed the damage is done and the policy is to take the machine back to its factory state. Then retest.

Uninstalled it
Jun 19, 2014 1:49AM PDT

I've just completely uninstalled/removed IDM from my PC and rebooted my PC after. The streams were working before and after uninstallation and rebooting. However, after rebooting my router the problem came back again. I tried opening the stream on the three different browsers Chrome, IE, and Firefox, but they are all raising the same error.

For more information, I'm using AD Block to block pop up ads on the three browsers, but unfortunately disabling it or not on all three browsers does not change anything and the error is still there.

So, it is clear that this problem has nothing to do with IDM or any other application or extension except Adobe Flash player.

My router is D-Link (Wireless N 150 ADSL2+ Modem Router), Model No: DSL-2730.

For correction, the site I'm getting the stream from is not usagoal.com but myp2p.ec.

So let's say you proved it's the router.

Did you change that?

I don't have others
Jun 19, 2014 2:21AM PDT

Actually I don't have any other routers or modems to test on at the current time. But, just now I noticed an important issue: as I mentioned in my first post that streams from new.livestream.com are working without any problems, some other streams are also working such as those from twitch.tv.
Thus, if it is a hardware problem with the router, shouldn't all streams be infected?

Could'nt you just

try without the router and use the modem? Would that prove anything?

What is the modem without the router?
Jun 19, 2014 2:56AM PDT

I'm on an ADSL service. I'm using a laptop which has only one socket for the Ethernet cable. I can't connect the laptop directly to the telephone socket in the wall because the two sockets are completely different and of course there is no dial-up connections anymore. I have no other devices to connect to my ADSL service but this D-Link router.

Thank you for your effort.

Sorry

I re-read your OP and see you have done this. I tried all of the sites you posted and they all worked fine for me.

After uninstalling the IDM did you reboot ?

Yes
Jun 19, 2014 3:37AM PDT

Yes, I mentioned that after removing IDM I rebooted my PC and everything was OK. Then, I went to test whether the problem is gone or not so I rebooted my router. After that, the links I've posted (myp2p.ec) didn't work and the same error message appeared again on all the three browsers.

(NT) No.

Sorry, but what's (NT) No.?
Jun 19, 2014 3:00AM PDT

I don't understand what (NT) No. means Happy

If you are noting that the Model No. of the router is "Not True". There is a missing 'U' after the number, so the Model No. is DSL-2730U.

Please forgive my ignorance.

What (NT) means
Jun 19, 2014 3:39AM PDT

Hi Mark.

(NT) is a forum abbreviation found in the subject line of a post to indicate there is no text other than what is in that subject line, (No Text). The body of the post box is empty.

So Bob's post was a quick reply to yours, no other text needed.

Hope that helps.

It took me a while to find out, Happy

Just out of curiosity does this happen with IE and have you tried an alternate browser, such as Mozilla?

- Collapse -
Yes
Jun 19, 2014 12:55AM PDT

Yes, I tried each of Mozilla Firefox last update and Internet Explorer 10 also the latest version, but the problem was there too. I think there was no difference because all streams are on Adobe Flash players not HTML5 players.

Answer
While damage may still exist, more about RTMP

This covers it nicely and frankly points out the router issue quickly. I'm guessing here that you think this all should work without changing routers or settings. The ugly answer is no. It's a shame that IDM was in play here since it only derailed any hope I had of writing about possible fixes. IDM is that bad and the only folk that seem to disagree are IDM, sellers and users hooked on downloads. Hard to feel sorry about the damage so I apologize for no one here.

OK, one idea is to put your PC into the router DMZ entry to see if that's it. Mind you this won't fix a bad router but could suffice as a workaround till a good router can be found.

Another idea with those DSL routers is to change them to model only devices but that setup is not something I'll cover here. You must be very adept at networking to get that to work on DSL.
