Please follow ALL of the steps in the link below to clean out your computer. It may take a while to complete all the procedures but it should assist in speeding up the machine.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes.
Hi! Recently, my computer is running extremely slow; there are 7 items in my system tray in the corner, and it takes about ~2 hours for all of them to have loaded. The Start menu is taking quite a long time to load itself as well, as do folders on my desktop. But when everything is fully loaded, it manages pretty well (I was able to burn a 4gb data disc relatively quickly.)
It all started yesterday morning; I went up to start my computer, and when I came back Spybot S&D was still performing a scan continued from last time. I stopped it, reset my computer only to find it was loading terribly slow.
The AVG Free program is still scanning all of my files, and it's been a little over ten hours, and this process usually takes only about 4 I'm currently checking to see if Spybot has actually started trying to scan as well.
On the Friday my computer was working properly, I completed a torrent of a Japanese drama which was about 1.4gb, and some clips of variety shows that were about 200-300mb in range (these were the files I burnt onto a disc in order to save space) Recently I have also been getting hit with Trojans and have let AVG try and fix the problems, as well as "Run DLL as an app" errors.
However, I feel like this problem's got something to do with the Spybot scan I prematurely stopped.
I'm real sorry for all this TL;DR I've read all the articles on how to deal with slowdown, and I'm just hoping someone else can give me their opinion, given what I was specifically doing, and maybe some solutions to fix it. This has happened to me before but not to such a severe degree. I'd be eternally grateful for any help.
Computer specifics: Windows XP with the most recent service pack, my computer is an HP Pavilion a1510n (that's the model number, right?)
Thanks so so so so much for reading!
