Hi. I have a Windows XP Pro machine, with an external modem connected to it. It is connected to my machine through COM2.
The problem is I have to make sure that the modem is switched on when Windows starts, otherwise, I won't be able to connect to my ISP. In the dialog box, it would say things like Unable to establish connection, which is due to the fact that Windows can't find the modem.
If I were to switch on the modem only when I want to use it, I have to go to the Phone and Modem Settings in Control Panel, press the Add modem button (but cancel when it is searching, just to stimulate Windows to search for the ports and know that the modem is connected to COM2).
Is there a way to solve this problem? In Windows ME/9x, I'm able to switch on the modem only when I want to use it without any troubles.
Thanks for your help!
