Use a global approach to SEO

As I understand it, SEO is morphing and changing to become more and more useful - so knowing what actually impacts rankings is quite difficult and complex. There are quite a number of factors, so your best off doing a combined effort in having great Alt tags, site description tags, content, updating frequently, using descriptive links, etc. Remember Alt tags are Alternative Attribute tags and also have a function for those who are blind - so using them only for SEO purposes might mean you're making your website inaccessible.

Hello Mate,

Both comes under SEO on page optimization.

Meta descriptions are created to give a short & effective description about your webpage to the users coming from search engines. It is visible in the snippets of search engine results.

Alt tags are for the images in the web pages will be described in places of slow loading connection. For example: In slow connections Gmail always asks you to click a link which says "Slow loading? Click here to load basic html version". For instance, in places if your images are not loading because of the internet or the disable of scripts in the browser, Alt tags will describe the image.

But definitely, Meta descriptions are more important than Alt tags!

One word answer - No!
SEO is kind of a big deal. For those who know what they are doing and, they are making good life but for others, it is not a cakewalk. It contains lot of things - on and off page.
Description and alt are on-page and description will always have more value that alt tags that is being used for images.

The RIGHT keywords are the most important thing.

I believe that the best thing to do with SEO, strictly speaking about On-Page Optimization, is to use the Yoast Plug In. It has really helped me get all my pages optimized.

If not or even if so, I've written a DIY guide that documents everything I've learned over the last year doing myself (for 3-4 hours/day). If you check it out, I hope you find it useful.

Because THAT page is optimized, just skip down a little for the meat of it. It details all factors when creating or editing a page.

I honestly believe that the most important thing is picking the RIGHT keywords. I explain how to do this on Tip 1 of the Article.

It depends if it is your eCommerce website you will be having many images, so they weight more, it is better to add some good keywords in the meta description as well to get more page rank in SERP. But check for page loading factors when you are using large images.
