Sent Items in Outlook Expres

Mar 16, 2004 4:25AM PST

I noticed today that I can not open my mail sent folder. I get the hour glass that never changes. I have to hit the ctrl-alt-delete to end the task. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong or where to look. I'm running OE6 on a win ME machine.

Nog big thing, but probably you lost the contents. It seems corrupted, somehow.

You can try file/folder/compress all folders to see if compress might fix things, but probably it will hang also.
Then exit Outlook Express, find Sent Items.dbx with Explorer, delete it, and restart the program. A new, empty, not corrupted one will be created automatically.

Hope this helps.

I did find one problem when I tried to open the oemig50.exe file.

The first text box,
oemig50.exe file is linked to missing export advapi32.dll reg overridepred key

The second text box,
C:\ProgramFiles\OutlookExpress\oemig50.exe
A device attached to your system is not functioning

I did extract the advapi32.dll and put it in OutlookExpress just in case it was damaged. Somehow I think I did not put it in the correct folder though. I'm not sure where it goes exactly.

I read a site that said,
For starters, open Windows Explorer and go to your Mail folder (usually, but not always, at C:\ Program Files \Outlook Express \ "Your Username" \ Mail) and delete the *.idx file, i.e., the index file, for the offending folder. When you restart Mail, OE will recreate the *.idx file that you deleted.

The problem is I cannot find the idx file.

I repaired IE to no avail. I have an old backup of the sent folder just in case I have to delete the folder but it is missing quite a few messages now.

Does this help?

The article [Q295965] states that when OE is started, some existing folders (Inbox, Sent, and so on) or personal subfolders may be missing and can be caused if the file "Folders.dbx" (the Indexer) is damaged or corrupted. To resolve this issue, rename or simply delete the Folders.dbx file for the impacted identity, and then start OE which rebuilds it.

CAVEAT: The Folders.dbx file keeps track of Active News Group Subscriptions also. Should that matter, do not delete it. If you do, this information will be lost. Again be advised, the file Folders.dbx is the file which categorizes and maintains the default mail Store (in OE, click Options, the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder, and then make a note of the path) and default OE files. If a certain file or folder is moved or copied into the mail Store in lieu of using the correct Import method, the Folders.dbx would not be aware of this change and therefore consider the replaced ?.dbx file or folder as corrupted. To make sure things are in sync when copying or moving files into a mail Store, delete the Folders.dbx file before OE is started to ensure this new file is created accurately. Should the system have asked, "Overwrite . . ."? when the copy or move was performed, anything previously in the overwritten one was lost.
