General discussion

sending pictures to card possible?

Mar 13, 2005 10:33PM PST

Hey, I'm relatively new to digital cameras and usage. I was wondering if pictures that I've uploaded into my computer can be sent back to the card so I can have them professionally developed? Thanks

Card Reader

The easiest way to do this is to buy a card reader/writer.

I use one all the time to download my photos from memory cards. You can also write photo files to the memory card.

There are all types of card readers:
Select one that can handle your type of card.
Many can handle several types of cards.
If you computer can handle USB 2, be sure to get a USB2 card reader for faster transfers.

Here is a sample of various card readers:

Other options.

There are other options which may not require a card reader/writer.

First, your computer may see the camera as a disk drive when it is connected. If so, you may be able to write to it with your computer.

I think most processors will accept a CD with the images. If you have a burner, you can put them on CD.

Many processors will accept electronic transmission of the image. Sam's Club, for example, provides free software which allows you to upload and order prints via the internet. Delivery can be at a local Sam's Club if it has photo printing equipment. There are several other online vendors.

edit then back to camera

sure you can view (and edit if you like) then 'save as'

back to whatever drive your camera is listed in your computer.

Make sure it's still saved as a JPeg file.

I don't know exactly why but you can't always wiew the pictures you returned to your camera's memory card until
you put the card in the 'drugstore's machine' I have used and made many many prints at CVS using Kodaks machines.
Much better results (and cheaper too) than printing yourself.
