Sending data to multiple programs with a usb barcode scanner

Jan 26, 2011 11:39PM PST

I have a Symbol barcode scanner and need to scan serial numbers to both Access as well as a proprietary (Citrix) program. We are scanning equipment to be loaded onto technicians trucks and is very time consuming to scan every piece of equipment two times for every tech.

Is there any software out there that would allow me to can the equipment one time and send the same data to both applications and be less time consuming than to just scan the equipment twice?

We are using Symbol USB scanners.

Also, free is the company motto. The software doesn't have to be fancy. I have done some research on some wedge software and it just doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for, or I don't know how to use it.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Focus.

This IS POSSIBLE but will require your average IT staffer with a little programmer background. The "app" would have the FOCUS and you scan into that app then the focus is set to the next app then the information "sent" to that app, change focus then send and then bring the focus back to the app that does all the capture and focus and sending.

This is not an offer to write such an app for free or do much more than give your usual 2nd year good IT staff an idea to go create this. Figure about a week for them to get it working.

Thank you for the information. I figured it would take a 3rd party program/script to make this work correctly.

Sorry I see I left out one KEYWORD.

In your app, the programmer may talk about the function SENDKEYS to send the information to the next app.

Hope this helps,
