Question

"selection" on print page

Jul 6, 2012 12:51PM PDT

When I want to print something, on the print page,"all" and "pages" are highlighted, but "selection" is not highlighted. Thus, I can't click it, and I am unable to print just a portion of a page. Can anyone tell me how to get "selection" made available?

"selection" on print page needs highlight

I am printing from HP Vista64 print page. "all" and "pages" are highlighted, but "selection" is not highlighted, which is why I can't print a section. I want to know how to get "selection" highlighted

I can't find that page.

I can cause a print dialog box from Word but it appears you are not using an application. An application is Word, web browser or other. I've encountered folk that forgot to highlight in the app before they got to the print dialog box.

"selection" on print page

I am trying to get a section of an e=mail. I have always highlighted the section, pressed print, and then hit "selection" However, all of asudden the selection tab is not highlighted. I am an old lady, and don't know too much about computers. Can you think of any way to get the selection tab to highlight?

Sorry no.

It may be possible to fix but we are this many posts into your discussion and we are only now covering that the text is highlighted. And now we are seeing the app is some email software but no other details.

My bet is that some antivirus is blocking this but that's just a guess because I've seen newer antivirus apps do that. I have no reason to write that's it.

-> How do you get support today? Can they fix this?

thanks for all your help. I don't think this is a virus since I have, within the past 2 days, had windows security do a full check, and they report nothing wrong. I can't afford to go to HP support (my computer is out of warranty) so I guess I will just have to live with the problem

I didn't write it was a virus.

I wrote about antivirus settings causing this. I'd rather not look into that area unless I know the email application's name as well as the antivirus installed and versions of each.

-> Think about this like your car. When you take it in they want to know details of make, model, history and of course the problem. So far we have the problem without the details.

can't highlight "selection"
Jul 8, 2012 2:30PM PDT

OK Bob. As I told you, I am an84 year old woman, with little knowledge of computer stuff. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials, which I just ran 2 days ago, and they found no viruses. What else can I tell you?I am not sure what applications means when it comes to computers. I am trying to print a selection from something I got in an e mail. I use windows mail for e mails. As far as I know, there are no versions of either of these. Am I right? Again, thank you so much for giving me you time and attention.

It's possible Microsoft broke it in Windows Mail.
Jul 8, 2012 3:45PM PDT

As we read
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-outlook/outlook-2007-print-selection-function-missing/59ab2679-58e2-4eb9-8111-2dc83a333dc8

We see that Microsoft has been known to break this function with various applications and updates.

There may be nothing wrong here but Microsoft is a bit quiet on things they break unless folk shine a big spotlight as in a news article.

My answer is that some update from Microsoft likely broke this feature.

For now, you can highlight and copy it into some other editor like Word and print that there.
