Seeking a customized shopping cart software service

Aug 15, 2008 3:54AM PDT

I'd like to start an ecommerce website devoted to children and their parents. Along with a blog, I want to have web pages for the kids: a page to print out for coloring, a page to print out for connect-the-dot, a section to play simple games like matching pairs of cards that they click, the usual types of games for kids on children's websites (thomas the tank engine, PBS kids, nickelodeon, etc.)

Who can do this?

Must be many.

But the usual killer item is that people want this done for so little or free. Let me share a tale of 2 companies. One wanted it fully customized and the other wanted to get their offerings online. The first company is still in development and out over 6 figures so far without a dime of income. The second company went online in 1 week on godaddy and has 2 years of sales.

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

It's sad that you can't do something off the beaten path.

Can these extra pages of kids things be added later to a site?

You can do such things.

But what I'm running into are some that don't want to create web pages or pay others for the site. Those will write that it should be easier or cheaper.

However if you set out your goals and have your business plan you can get going. Don't be like the person that wants the Prius for 10K.
