WEP encryption, WPA security and MAC filtering you have probably read about, if not then these will help secure your wireless connection.
here's a lengthy write-up from Fred Langa, and this guy knows his beans (knows what he's talking about).

me....i'm ok with the wired world, i brought a kit from Best Buy everything was in it (i think it was a 200 ft. roll of cat5, the cable ends, the tool to put the ends on & i learned a great deal about networking. maybe a small headache to run the cable, but well worth the tylenol or the time to run them yourself. as your finding out...it's about security and those who want to moch off of others.
Hi,
I'm new to this wireless thing. I bought the Motorola SBG900 (I think). I read and read the instruction and still can't understand. Basically, it's running fine and all my wireless notebooks can connect to it. But the problem is all notebooks can anyhow connect to my Modem. I think all my neighbours can just connect to my modem without me knowing.
I know the manual explained how to set up the security setting so only certain notebooks those configured or set correctly can connect to modem. But which part should I follow? All the instructions use all the words I'm not familiar with. Which part of the security setting should I change for both modem and my laptops? (The only part I understand is NOT to use wireless to configure my notebook and use the cable instead until all the setiing is done).
If this has been discussed before, could you post me the link to the discussion.
Thank you in advance.
