Security Program

Aug 25, 2005 11:21PM PDT

I'm looking for a program that would allow me to lock the computer upon start up of windows. I've tried a lot of those security programs but I'm want to know if anyone is aware of any that inorder to log into the computer, a combination of keys are pressed in order to show the log in dialog; for example CTRL+ALT+DEL shows the task manager.

Basically, the program should hide desktop and display desired wallpaper and in order to login, I'd have the press some key combination to access the log in dialog.

Or...a program that just hides the icons on the desktop and when the 'start' button is press, it asks for password.

Has anyone come across such program and know where I could find one? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

How about Windows?

Both Windows XP Home and XP Pro (and Windows 2000 of course) meet your needs (required password protect logon) practically out of the box.

With Windows 98/ME you need to set up profiles, then change the logon type in Config Panel>Network (by head), then use Xteq Setup (freeware download) to disable the Cancel button on the logon screen. But after this little setup a username and password is required to do anything in Windows.

And there's always the BIOS password to be set.

If I understood you wrong, please clarify why the above solutions aren't adequate.

Hope this helps.

I understand those options, but I want to make the computer seem like its not protected at all. I would like the computer to boot up and seem like all is ok until you're to run any programs. That's why I want the destop iconds to be hidden and an empty wallpaper and only the log in screen appears if I press a combination of keys...or display the start menu but prompt for password when any progam is to be executed or the programs menu is to be accessed...

Out of the box windows does not allow me to do that...

thank you

To make it simple. I would like to appear as the computer froze, but when I press combination of buttons, the password dialog appears. I seen may programs that do this but they either have the password field right on the screen or once the move is moved then it appears...
