Security Problem/ Standby Problem

Security Problem
I have a Windows 98 computer that lets you logon when you press cancel. Isn't that supposed to shut down the computer?

Standby Problem
My other problem is when I go on standby, it says I shut down the computer improperly when I turn it back on.

Well....the logon thing seems normal.

Standby.
I use a w98 machine.
I could never get that PM stuff to work reliably.
I chased it around through driver and bios updates.....zip/nadda.
I finally got tired of the thing and turned the whole mess off.
When I want to use the machine....I turn it on.
When I'm finished with the machine....I turn it off.
The machine is happy.....I'm happy.

For better security buy Windows XP.

You can't logon into it if all accounts are password protected and you don't know the password.

Note, however, that XP comes by default with a secret administrator account without password. That's a backdoor I can use to logon to practically any XP PC (with administrator capabilities!), because practically nobody takes the trouble to give it a password.
