Question

Security on Qb and or computer

Aug 13, 2017 5:10PM PDT

I have Qb 2014 with 2 companies. I was working on one company and went to switch to the other to write a check. In doing this the program froze and wouldn't switch over. It took me to open or restore from a back up. Not a big deal so I went to do this from the previous evening back up. When it goes to the screen that has me pick the company and specific back up. it lists my companies and it list several companies of another company - Not Mine! I know this other company because we had split from them in March 2014 - in an unpleasant way. Although we shared the same office location for 8 months - I purchased a new computer with separate software to keep my info private. I am 10 milesfrom their location since November 2014. I will tell you too that I started receiving notifications periodically via email that qb couldn't back up because aprogram was open. This notice referenced the OTHER Co.. I was concerned when I found - as they would never have used my email for notification but I ignored since it was just an email. Any contact I had attempted to make to the president via email has consistently been ignored.

To me this sounds like you at one time used Intuit's Cloud.

I spent 3 hours on phone with intuit. They took me to 2nd level of security. Not sure how many levels there are. They say they will monitor and call me Monday. Doubt there is much activity over weekend though. Never did the cloud. I understand the process of backing up. The notifications aren't about my back ups or company.

If the cloud system was used and it's the same license used here and there. You didn't deny it was the same license so my bet is that's it.

I apologize. I must not have been clear. We absolutely do not have the same license or anything co-mingled. We were only once at the same office building - nothing more. Everything was new - Hardware, software and separate on my end. I had gone as far as not sharing their wifi and used my own hot spot. Notifications I don't care about. My concern is if they can remotely gain information from my computer - and in my switching between companies on Friday - I was in their vortex (that's how I imagine it) I've not been able to see it again since - and the program was in a semi frozen state at the time.

Any re-use of an email address to register QB?

My thought is if folk use the cloud they may see issues like this.

Even with what you've told I fear only Quicken can explain how this happened. It's their code and system.
