Secondary OS for PS3

Mar 17, 2007 1:47AM PDT

I was just wondering if any one has installed a secondary operating system on a PS3.I know the PS3 is open source and according to the manual it can be done. I have heard some individuals have loaded Linux on their consoles.

Not sure how but

I know Linux will work. I've heard of people installing Windows XP and Apple OSX on their PS3 but it will run slow as hell because those OS's aren't designed to work with the PS3's architecture.

Ha, I'm sure Sony is just cringing at the idea of people installing a Microsoft product on the PS3.

sony computers run xp and vista dont they. plus if someone is using microsoft hardware on their ps3 that means sony sold a ps3 and got $600, so i dont think sony cares as long as they make money.

Yellow Dog Linux is a free Linux distro that is specifically targeted towards PS3 owners who wish to dual-boot. To get started, check out the mini installation guide. Keep in mind, though, that such is not supported by Sony, so if something goes wrong you're completely on your own.
