Question

Secondary hard drive not detected-but a little different

Feb 24, 2014 1:31PM PST

I removed the second hard drive from my old Dell Optiex GX240 and did a fresh install of xp pro sp3 to use as a gaming computer for some old games. On boot up I get the message "secondary hard drive 1 not detected, hit F1 to continue..."etc, etc. No problems on boot up after selecting F1. I have turned off hard drive 1 in the bios and read hours of forums but not seen any other problem like this. Not a big deal because everything works it's just a pain and I would like for my old Dell to be right. Any ideas? Perhaps updating the BIOS?

In short, did you head to the BIOS, update and save the changes?

Hi R. Proffitt, Thanx for responding. Forgive me but I'm new ....should I always click a thumbs up or down? To clarify on my BIOS, I have not yet updated the BIOS. Could an update help?

I would not update the BIOS.

I would however try changing that setting and then save it.

If you can supply screen shots or a manual I'll read more about your PC.
