Resolved Question

Second Monitor Trouble

Sep 12, 2016 5:58PM PDT

When trying to connect a second monitor to my PC I ran into a problem. My computers graphics card only has 1 VGA port, but above the card there are two more ports. Is there anyway I can use those to plug in a second monitor?

Had to use UEFI

All I did was turn on iGPU and my NVIDIA card on (iGPU was not on before)

I have a ASRock motherboard, Intel Core i5, and a NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti.
I pressed F2 when the ASRock logo popped up then just changed PCI-E to onboard.

The 780 I know of has VGA on one of the DVI ports.

Here's the business end of the 780 I know of. Use the wikipedia link to see which DVI is your VGA port.

It's the DVI port on the left that supports VGA with the DVI to VGA adapter.

Answer
The most common is HDMI and DVI.

Now some, but not all DVI ports have VGA signals but without exact model numbers I would not try a DVI to VGA adapter. And HDMI/DVI to VGA adapters can be as much as a HDMI display.

Care to share the makes and models of what you have?

I have a DVI plugged in
Sep 12, 2016 6:24PM PDT

So right now I have a DVI cable plugged into my graphics card slot. But there are no other ports beside a HDMI. Which my other monitor does not have. But where my processor is there is a VGA and DVI port. But when I plug it in nothing shows up. Like the ports are not connected to anything

This is where the make and model number can help.

Some PCs with onboard video need specific BIOS settings and some machines just disable that when the video card is installed.

Since you claim you have DVI, then use the HDMI for that display and try a DVI to VGA for your VGA display. Remember I can not tell you this works since the machine is a mystery machine.

Don't have HDMI Port

I don't have a HMDI port on my other monitor. Plus how would I find the model number?

Usually

On the stickers on the device. Monitors usually have it on the back. If it's totally unknown then it's unknown how to fix this.

Remember YOU CLAIM you have DVI and since the card or PC has other ports I think you are just new to video ports. Post pictures if you can't identify them. I use imgur.com a lot.

Those look like HDMI ports!
Sep 13, 2016 4:13PM PDT

The DVI is DVI Dual Link ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface )

So there are now 2 HDMI ports, 1 DVI Dual Link and a VGA port there (the 15 pint jack.)

It's a shame the PC details are missing but there's a high probabiltiy you you have 2 digital monitors and maybe one VGA.

Remember I will be correct about my terminology. Some want to call displays "VGA" when they are, well, I really don't know what they are thinking.

Next I see no video card. I see on board video connections. So after all this, I get the feeling this is just all new stuff to you.

-> My bet is that if you can find a product manual on your unknown PC it should be fine at hosting your current monitor plus a VGA on the 15 pin VGA port.

I KNOW THAT!

My monitor DOES NOT have a HDMI cable port on it. My graphics card only has ONE DVI port. But my motherboard has 1 DVI and 1 VGA (Which both do not work). My question is how can I get it to recognize those ports on the motherboard.

All I had to do was turn on iGPU through the UEFI settings
