Feb 16, 2004 6:15PM PST

i have a problem
tonite for some reason some one was try to attack my computer, my norton firewall was going nuts, i rebooted, then i could not get window to work at all, and i try a couple time
when i try to re install xp, it just would not let me, like i normal do, something about wrong partition
ok delete c 20 Gb hard drive as i made copy of all file and put to D 120 GB hard drive of which i partition 4 way
well
window xp does not find the hard drive or or most of the partition now, and i got all my picture and other stuff on it
in BIOS it tell me master 20496 mb and slave 122.98 gb, but in my comter it tell me nothing it not there, when before i had 5 one for the 20 and 4 for the 120
in control panel/administrative tools/compter management/disk management, on top in white box it listed one of my partition which i name copy as 19.93 Gb whic is correct, but 3 other do not even show up
then on bottom of same page ii listed disk 1 basic 114.49gb COPY online NTFS healthy active

so my question why it find one partitionand liat it correct. but then goes way out , when it listed disk 1

please do not tell me all my data is lose, i think i cry, i got tons of picture on one of the partition, which does even list now, it like it does not exist

Did you manage to reinstall XP successfully ? Where ? Did you format after making backups ?

My question is this: Did you disconnect all external devices prior to resetting up XP, as well as did all the partitions show up during the setup, as well as the type (either FAT 32 or NTFS)?

Simple protocols are . .

when a member is reading a "Message", or later a "Thread" within a "Group" and clicks the Reply to this message, the saved input (reply) is attached to the one which was being read AT THAT TIME and is a response to/for that individual.

IMHO, you're simply plugging whatever you wish to say on any available thread within a group and other forum members do not know to whom your comments are for untill the thread is opened and read.

Could, and would you please cease this practice?

Re:second hard drive not list and missing partition, but is it ACTIVE?

For example DISKPART notes this drive as ACTIVE:
DISKPART> detail partition

Partition 1
Type : 07
Hidden: No
Active: Yes

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- -----
* Volume 2 BPXP NTFS Partition 115 GB Healthy

DISKPART> detail disk

IC35L120AVVA07-0
Disk ID: B5FEB5FE
Type : IDE
Bus : 0
Target : 0
LUN ID : 0

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- -----
* Volume 2 BPXP NTFS Partition 115 GB Healthy

You can read more on the DISKPART tool at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=300415 and it's possible that the Drive Management tool could make it ACTIVE, but I didn't research that.
