Question

Searching for Small Cheap Laptop to Stream Music

Jul 1, 2015 10:22AM PDT

My music collection outgrew my 120GB iPod long ago, but I've kept using it because it sounds so good coming out of my Bose iPodspeakers. I'm ready to move on. What I'm looking for is a small footprint, cheap (sub $200) with a decent sound system that I can connect to a large cpacity portable disk drive that hold my music collection , and then, using iTunes, Bluetooth or hardwire to one or two of the excellent portable speakers that are availble these days. Asus might fill the bill. They say they have this great sound system called SonicMaster on all their laptops. Is it any good? I'm open to any and all suggestions (except maybe the cloud. I listen to music a lot and I don't want to use up my monthly download allotment on this). Thanks

There are new laptops at that price.

Check out the best sellers in Laptops at the welcome post in this forum. The dual core Celeron with 4GB RAM can be found with about 320 to 500 GB. It will play just fine. I'd use better speakers as you noted.

Answer
Acer or lenovo

As the title suggest, have a look at a cheap lenovo or acer. They make some good cheap laptops that will last.

If you are going with the acer make sure that the always on option in the bios for the fan is off otherwise it will make a lot of noise when you are streaming music.
