Question

Searching for a particular graphic files duplicate on my pc

May 4, 2018 8:46PM PDT

There are search programs galore for the purpose of finding and deleting duplicate image files. I've used a few with success. But the problem I am currently facing is that I want to locate other copies of one particular image file without having to look through hundreds or even thousands of photos in the process. In other words, I want to click on an image and then have a program locate other copies of that particular photo and that photo only.

All the duplicate finders I've used

Sort the finds in alphabetic order. So let it rip and then scroll down to that name and avoid clicking on all of them.

Looking for duplicates of one particular image file

Not quite that simple. Main problem is that, while I may know the identity of the photo that I am looking at presently, the titling on the duplicates may entirely different. A good example of this would be when you do a recovery of files on an old hard drive or a drive that you've deleted everything on. The recovery program may find the image file, but, when it does, it gives the file an entirely different name when saving it for you.

Which works for me.

All the duplicate finders put the duplicates under that group so if I know one file name I can find the others even if the file name is different.

Although None Of Them Actually Search By The Image Itself..

...Some of the duplicate file removers have a photo viewer that allows you to see the pictures that are detected by the remover program. The Microsoft Store has a free one at AT THIS WEBSITE but apparently, that's the problem you're having... Needing to check through all the picture views to determine whether they're identical or not. I know of no such remover that can automatically find the duplicate by "knowing" what's inside the file.

Here, I identify them by anything that would narrow down what they are. Groupl.... Location... Size... type of picture file (.jpg, .bmp, .tiff, etc.)

Hope this helps.

I'm afraid you are correct

I'm afraid that you're correct in stating that such a program or function of a program does not exist [unless the CIA has one]. I'm talking about generations of scanned family photos and negatives along with modern day digitals - around 350,000 of them. Looks like I might as well put on a very big pot of coffee and settle in for lots of hours watching my monitor as I use one of the standard duplicate photo finder programs.

Thanks for replying to my post.
