Searching for a laptop (for school)

by DR_COOL / August 12, 2010 3:32 PM PDT

I'm looking for a new laptop for school. I'm looking to either buy it now or hold out till the November/December deals. I'm looking for a computer that is lightweight and has a good battery life (5-6 hours). I'm not looking to play games on it, just do school work and run media programs (music, photos, DVDs) and other assorted stuff. I do have some demanding programs. Either way, I'm looking to spend $900-$1000. I started looking at the HP Pavilion dm4. Any other suggetions? Thank you.

The laptop for school question is asked many times already. Did you read the discussions?

I did. I was also hoping to get some feedback on the HP pavilion dm4. I've heard mixed things about it.

I like the size. The 14 and 15 inch laptops fair pretty well over time and use. There are some hundred variations of the dm4 but look firsthand at the display and keyboard to see if you like them. Unless you opt for the long life battery, it usually needs replacement after year 2 if you use the battery daily.

laptop suggestion

Hi there,

You may also want to look into the Dell Studio 15. It is below your budget at $649 and I think it will suit your needs well because it has a fast processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of hard drive space. The Sony Vaio EB series is another great choice for college students (it has similar specs to the Dell) but also has a Blu-ray player.

What do you think?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
