Searchforfree.info hijack - how to remove?

Jun 23, 2005 12:51AM PDT

hi, i'm not a very expert computer user. my friend's computer has a problem where the homepage of the browser (internet explorer) constantly switches to "searchforfree.info". i've manually set it to google a number of times, but it always goes back to this searchforfree web site. i downloaded the windows anti-virus thing. and it alerts that the "search" page is attempting to change to searchforfree.info. but it doesn't seem to prevent the homepage from changin. i alsoe downloaded and ran norton's antivirus, and this doesn't seem to stop the problem. also: adaware and spybot search & destroy. still, the problem continues.

does anyone have any suggestions that are not too technically involved? are there any programs that can be downloaded to prevent this from happening?

thanks so much!

1. Always a good question for the Virus Forum.

2. I use Mozilla and Firefox to dodge such bullets.

You can too.

is there a way to do a search on the forums to see if anyone else has posted a question? i wonder if someone else may have already posted this somewhere.

thanks!
