Search in Win XP with error message

by hardware5 / November 7, 2004 9:50 PM PST

I installed Win Xp with service pack 1. Previously, I had win 98 on my pent III 850, 256 meg ram. I made a clean installation, format and install.

When I try to activate the "search" for a filename with Win Xp, to search for a file on C: or D: or ...
I get an error message. The search just won't start.
A test for virus was negative.
Do I have to reinstall Win Xp or is it possible to install only the search function in Windows xp without losing the actual installation of softwares, data... ?
