Search engine submission services

Oct 12, 2005 7:36AM PDT

I've recently started a website to showcase my photographic works. It was designed by betterphoto.com, looks nice, bells, whistles, etc. I'm curious, however, about search engine submission services. I've been bombarded with bravenet, websquash, scrubthenet, and the like and really don't understand what these services are about. In short, they all say I can pay them $10 to $100 for them to submit my url to up to 9,000 (yes, 9,000 search engines---sounds like a bad carny caller or worse TV commercial). Then, of course, they can "analyze" my keywords, etc, etc. Can anyone offer me some help? Is there some reading material, other resources? Everything seems like such scam.

Thanks ahead of time!

Such services will scream that it's not true, but it's just another internet scam.
