While the problem is called google redirect and/or other names, ANY search engine can be effected. It makes no matter what one you use, if you have the infection it will "redirect to annoyance websites" that at least that is waste of time. But, more importantly, it becomes possible if repeated redirects that you click on one of those results and/or go directly you *MAY* become further infected with a hijacker portion of this problem. Google all you want to find tools, pgms, etc., but the issue remands for me as they never 100% cleaned it out for me. Also, understand some variants of the infection need different tools but the results of why you got a redirect appears to remain.
How I got it. ---> I think I got this because of a small pgm. that got d/l'ed to me. In my sleepy state of late night cruzing, got hit with a warning, what I thought was proper action became a "yes" to d/l, either by trickery or mistake it got behind the wire. In my later action, I launched the pgm. which though small became the crux of my problem. Though, I was warned it somehow mushroomed and no AV pgm. and/or tool could resolve it. Maybe, I got the worse variant of the issue and yes I was able delete it and others, but it came back. Which is why I post here to think that the last resort is to reload the OS. Do a 100% format(raw) and then reload, don't use the quick format method. I fought this infection for a total of 6 days.
