General discussion

Search and Member profile issues are being worked on

Dec 13, 2006 6:42AM PST

Hopefully --cross your fingers--search issues for looking up post by message authors and also posts counts, replies to your post counts, and other weird quirky stuff in the member profiles will be fixed by the end of the day around 5:30 - 6:00 PM PST.

Please let me know if you see any issues after these fixes have been deployed this evening.

Thanks everyone for your patience.

My Latest Replies is not working for me...
Dec 13, 2006 11:33AM PST

It is only displaying one item, a reply to a product review, which was made back in September of last year...no forums update are being displayed.

My profile post count and list of posts, as well as the forum search, on the other hand, are all working perfectly for me again.

Assuming "My latest replies" is working for everyone else, could you check out my account, Lee, and see what's up?

John

UPDATE: Different problem now...
Dec 13, 2006 11:51PM PST

Now the My Latest Replies section is updating, but under the title and poster of the reply it lists the title of the reply again instead of my post, the one it is a reply to. Something fishy's going on here.

Profile: Forum post counts fixed, checks out OK

Profile: My Latest submission (public view),fixed, checks out OK

Profile: My Latest replies (private view) fixed, checks out OK

advanced search,checks out OK

In my profile my posts check out OK

If i use the search forums with my user name there are posts missing

I always wondered about when you use the search forums, then on the page there is the option sort results by.It says relvance. The only option is the date, why even have the drop down box if the only option is the date. Why not just have it automaticlly use a chronological order, starting with the must current date.

Do you have any news on the tracked discussions issue

Thanx,
Tom

Hi Tom
Dec 14, 2006 4:20AM PST

Posts missing? Can you give me some detail so I can show the engineers. In your profile currently you have 2906 posts.. Advance search by Message author returns the same amount of results 2906.

Anyways if have any details that would be great.

As for My tracked discussions, we will be relaunch it: here some details with the new version:

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7598_102-0.html?forumID=51&threadID=223445&messageID=2347374

Cross your fingers I hope it works out this time.

Thanks!

In the search forums bar (not talking about advanced search)type tomron>select date.

I can tell by the dates that many are missing.

Thanx,
Tom

If you are using the search bar and not advance search
Dec 14, 2006 5:53AM PST

it will only return search for "tomron" if it is located in the subject line and body of the post... it will not search usernames.

The only way to surface all of your post is to use the advance search and type in "tomron" in the Message Author field.

Does this make sense?

Post count NOT working for new members...
Dec 13, 2006 11:53PM PST

I just went to check the profile of a new member who signed up this morning, an.echte.trilingue, and it turns up with 0 posts. The forum search, on the other hand, finds 7 posts at this time.

That's another strange one... I reported it
Dec 15, 2006 1:52AM PST

It may possible the reply got deleted and the servers are slow in updating the post counts. I'm hoping this is just one time occurrence, but if this becomes a frequent issue then my hair will start turning gray pretty darn fast...

Thanks Tom for reporting this.

In case the link doesn't work this is what it said via e-mail notification.

"We're sorry, but the page you requested could not be found".

I see, the 2nd message (reply) was most likely deleted
Dec 18, 2006 2:49AM PST

thus the message you are getting when trying to access that specific post. The server for some reason was a bit slow in loading the message count.

Tom, let me know if you see any more of these, I have already reported this bug, but I need a few more examples to supply the engineers so they can dig deeper into.

Thanks for reporting this.

Tom are these posts coming from SE?
Dec 20, 2006 4:43AM PST

If they are, by the time you get the email notification of the updated postings --those posts have been deleted already...That's why they're aren't available in the database.

Some are from SE,but i checked SE shortly afterwards clicking on the SE forum link and they are not deleted, also some are for other forums.

Most of the issues i posted regarding this stem from via e-mail notifications, but not all.

Can you send me those links from your email notifications

This way I can dig deeper and let the engineers know about this if it is an ongoing issue.

I think the bulk of those error messages stem from SE,but i do recall getting an error message for another forum.I do not remember which one since i am bouncing around here at 100 miles per hour.

I get so many notifications that i delete every chance i get.I will certainly will provide you with the link, with the exception of SE.

Sorry about crying wolf
