Question

Seagate Connectivity

Sep 8, 2015 12:22AM PDT

I'm a total tech noob, so excuse the very basic wording.

Last year I purchased a Seagate external hard drive to store movies and pics etc. While it plugs into our computer perfectly fine, the same USB won't fit into our TV or even my Mac. The plug could probably be forcibly pushed into the Mac (I really don't want to do that), however the TV just won't have a bar of it. It's kind of a pain as now I have to copy movies from the Seagate to a simple USB stick so that I can watch them on my TV or Mac.

Is this a comment problem with Seagate? Are there different USB plugs, or are they all the same? Am I just being stupid?

There's USB A, B, C, mini- and micro USB and USB 3.0.

So all you need: the right cable. After all, it's not the drive or the case that plugs into the TV, but the cable.

Any competent electronics shop (given the user manual of the TV) should be able to sell you the 2 cables you need: one fot the Mac and one for the TV.

However, note that to use it on the Mac without additional software you need it to be formatted in FAT32, not in NTFS.

Danger. Do not use that to "store" things.
